Fannas 'Spirit of St Lucia' - The Boat
Fannas 'Spirit of St Lucia' was designed especially for the St Lucia estuarine environment. Fannas is a segmented-pontoon boat which was designed with an extra wide and flat bottom to keep it floating higher in the water. On the St Lucia Estuary this is beneficial as it allows Fannas to get closer to the banks, and some of the animals, than would usually be possible. Fannas only needs approximately 300 to 400 millimeters of water to float in. That is pretty impressive for a boat of its size.
The Skippers & Guides Aboard
All of the skippers/guides aboard the tour are very experienced and knowledgeable about both all of the flora and fauna in the area as well as boating techniques and safety. Our skippers/guides are fully qualified in the operation and handling of Fannas (as well as other water craft) and have been specially trained in water-bound firefighting techniques and first-aid (basic & advanced).
The Hippo and Crocodile Tour
The St Lucia Hippo and Crocodile Boat-Based Estuarine Tour is conducted over a distance of approximately 10kms. In this area it will be possible to see 2-3 breeding pods of hippopotami, approximately 25-30 locally based crocodiles as well as the many majestic species of birds that are native to our area. Our area is known for the most species of bird available to be viewed in one locale in South Africa (almost 500 species).
